Steven Pinker, one of the world鈥檚 foremost writers on language, mind and human nature, will present 小草影院鈥檚 Clifford Fawl Psychology Lecture on Thursday, March 22.

His lecture, 鈥淓nlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism and Progress,鈥 begins at 7 p.m. in O鈥橠onnell Auditorium.

Pinker is the Johnstone Family Professor of Psychology at Harvard University. His research on vision, language, and social relations has won prizes from the National Academy of Sciences, the Royal Institution of Great Britain, the Cognitive Neuroscience Society, and the American Psychological Association. He has received numerous prizes for his books, 鈥淭he Language Instinct,鈥 鈥淗ow the Mind Works,鈥 鈥淭he Blank Slate,鈥 and 鈥淭he Better Angels of Our Nature.鈥 His new book, 鈥淓nlightenment Now,鈥 in a New York Times bestseller demonstrates that life, health, prosperity, safety and peace are on the rise.

Pinker has been named Humanist of the Year, Prospect Magazine鈥檚 鈥淭he World鈥檚 Top 100 Public Intellectuals,鈥 Foreign Policy鈥檚 鈥100 Global Thinkers,鈥 and Time Magazine鈥檚 鈥淭he 100 Most Influential People in the World Today.鈥 He is a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist.

His lecture is free and open to the public. O鈥橠onnell Auditorium is located inside the Rogers Center for Fine Arts at 50th Street and Huntington Ave.

The Clifford Fawl Lecture honors the long-time professor and chair of Nebraska Wesleyan鈥檚 Psychology Department. The series brings in nationally-recognized speakers in the area of psychology.
